A high-paced company, a London Market Lloyd’s syndicate, is seeking a Medical Malpractice Underwriter to join its team in London. The successful candidate should be based in the UK or Europe and be willing to relocate.
Key Responsibilities
You should possess a strong understanding of the global (excluding the US) Medical Malpractice marketplace, along with a minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience or experience in brokerage. The company’s primary markets currently include Canada, the UK, and the Middle East. The role requires monthly travel within the EU to promote the company’s Medical Malpractice offering, as well as to support the life science liability business development (training will be provided).
The successful candidate will be joining a team of two Underwriters with an additional two support Underwriters.
The job involves working 3 days a week from an office in London and 2 days from home.
Key Responsibilities:
Optimization of processes in our software engineering environment
You are a problem solver and take care of smaller and larger inquiries from our customers
Within the DevOps team of system engineers and software engineers, you agree on the customer requirements and implement them
Design flexible and extensible architectures for new features, components and services
Together with the developers of the individual sub-areas of our platform, you will analyze operational problems
Reviewing performance metrics and develop ideas to improve the robustness and scalability of our platform
Designing workarounds and permanent solution ideas for recurring operational problems.
You will be expected to provide input for the optimization of our business processes
Conducting thorough underwriting assessments for medical malpractice insurance accounts
Monitoring and analysing the performance of the medical malpractice insurance portfolio and proactively adjusting underwriting approach
Working closely with the claims and compliance teams to ensure policy adherence
Running multiple facilities
Training junior staff in medical underwriting
Expanding the EU portfolio and developing local market knowledge
Reporting to the Director of Healthcare
You Are
Solid understanding of underwriting
Fluent in English and either in German or Spanish
Comfortable with actuarial pricing models
Experienced in running binders and the renewal process
Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
Ability to open doors and create new relationships
Innovative thinker, able to adapt and develop new ideas and implement them
Self-starter and self-motivated
Strong work ethic
Proficient in Excel
Additional desirable skills & attributes:
Experience with compliance sign-off for facilities and master policies
Comfortable reviewing and amending wordings, and, when necessary, writing new clauses
Bring in existing broker relationships that are new to the company
Experience in other classes of business that can expand the company’s breadth of offerings to the market
